When I lived there in the early 90's college sports seemed to be only MD & Navy
I don't ever recall a UVA game in any sport. Then again I lived there for football and only the start of basketball season that year.
They certainly were a pro town first with Redskins, Bullets, Capitals followed by Maryland basketball/football (these possibly equivalent or greater to NHL Capitals). Navy football was also on TV and covered in the paper a lot.
