Just because one CAN do something, doesn't mean one WILL do something.

I like to compare it this way: Say my daughter is getting picked on by some punk 7 year old on the bus. So I meet him at the bus stop to talk to him about it. I could quite easily do some serious damage to this kid. Obviously, I'm not going to. I'm just planning on talking to him. But what if when I meet him at the bus stop, he is not only a black belt in multiple disciplines, he gasses me with a substance I am severely allergic to, one that is nearly incapacitating. If he hits me with the gas while I am still underestimating him, then he's got a real chance at putting me down.

And that's exactly how Batman has beaten Superman in the comics.
