Real G Man All-American
All the talk about healthcare reminds me, again, of what happened when our twins
were born. I was a lowly BYU student with no insurance and they had to stay in the hospital for 30 days. The expenses were much more than my gross wages for a year. I quit school, took a job with much more income, pinched our pennies, and paid off the hospital, doctors and related costs in just over a year. Went back to school and graduated when the twins were 2 years and 3 months, and my wife expecting our third daughter.

I see no way a young father could do that today. Thirty days in the hospital today would cost many, many times a young father's gross income, let alone the doctor's fees, etc.

Our system is broke and no politician really wants to do what it takes to fix the problems.

It is my belief, and some may disagree, but the real problem started when the gov't got involved with healthcare, starting with Medicare. The hospitals changed, the doctors started charging more because the gov't was paying, employee insurance started getting more universal.

A separate story is our 18 months in Australia and anyone who compares us to England, Canada, Australia, the Scandinavians, etc, just doesn't understand the problem and is only thinking how "FREE" sounds so nice.,
