I would think that would be very attractive to Polynesian athletes. I also believe eventually a majority of BYU’s players will be Polynesian. Then top tier non LDS Polynesian athletes will give BYU a harder look, and we’ll start getting some or those players in Provo. The wins will come, and it will be a big BYU Polynesian Football family.
College football had never seen anything like BYU’s unique high-powered offense that sprang forth under LaVell. That new style of play put BYU on the map, and made BYU into a household name. Eventually college football and defenses caught-up, and BYU’s advantage dwindled.
I believe the new future of BYU football will be strong hardnosed dominant Polynesian teams. Kalani Sitake will do what LaVell Edwards did and give BYU a new look, and hopefully Kalani’s name will be on a building years down the road.
