be paid back. To me that's far more "making on your own" than just accepting a gift. I see no problem with using the money parents have worked to set aside-- that's why they did it. I also can appreciate a kid who would rather do it themselves. We have no idea what the relationship is like or if there may be intentional or unintentional strings on the parents' money.
