RE: your last bit... We're supposed to shield our eyes from it because, as noted
in a post above, if we don't regard it worth a certain reverence, then it becomes mundane and common. We aren't just "supposed to shield our eyes from it," we're really supposed to look at and appreciate it, but in a specified context (marriage) that incorporates social responsibilities, as you mentioned.
