The HAKA is not always about war
I am indifferent to BYU doing the HAKA to open the games, but people need to understand that it is not just a war dance, and the idea of being disrespectful to veterans simply isn't true. The HAKA that has been performed in the past by BYU is the "Ka Mate", which is a celebration of life over death. The HAKA can be used for war, but when done for war, weapons are usually used. It is also used to honor people and wish them well on their journeys. I live in Australia, and a lot of the Kiwis will do the HAKA to show respect/honor bishops when they are released or move from the ward.
