Honestly, this is a great observation and could be key to transition
I think BYU Nation is almost entirely in agreement when it comes to the potential of Ty Detmer's ability to lead an offense as OC. That said, there is wisdom that only comes through the trial and error process gained through direct experience. Detmer has experience aplenty, but not in this specific role. Ditto for Sitake. They could each prove more than equal to the task and sooner than expected. It could happen.

In my mind, the smart money says to expect fairly significant growing pains, particularly vs. the schedule we've inherited.

That said, star players can cover a great host of errors, and Taysom has star credentials in spades. He is an electric presence on the field while healthy. He has the rare ability to turn broken plays into highlight-reel, Top 10 material. He is experienced and looks to have improved significantly as a passer.

Eventually, I'm optimistic that the Detmer-Mangum combo could produce fireworks that usher Tanner into an NFL career. Taysom's athleticism could be the perfect bridge to help us get from our present to that particular future.
