It wasn't anything that crazy, I don't think
The biggest thing was eating better. I used to eat out at least daily. Looking back, it was embarrassing. Now I eat out maybe once a week, and it's a low calorie option from Subway, Panera, Thai food, etc.

I started using an app called MyNetDiary, which helps me track fat, carbs, protein and other things by scanning barcodes of food. There are a ton of apps just like it. It helps you set limits based on your weight loss goals. At first I wasn't losing as fast as I thought I should, so I set my daily caloric intake at 2000 and later on lowered it to 1500. I'll raise it back to 2000 now that I'm focusing on fitness rather than weight loss.

The last thing I've done is walk. I started off walking for 5-10 minutes during my breaks at work. I gradually started walking faster and longer. I'm now starting to run, but that will be a slow transition as I'm not that fit yet.

I also think having a competition was a great motivator, and I also reported to my FO weekly and my wife and I discussed it daily.
