I think the truth is somewhere between him and Y'sGuys and BYUandUtah
He seems to be behind the curve on the narrowing the candidates. They indeed may have interviewed all candidates, but it seems there have always been 6 or so finalists for about a month. But the deal being done already as proclaimed by Y'sGuys (or whatever his name is) and BYUandUtah definitely jumped the gun. Not sure what I think about WVdude- he's a wild card. Swaim seemed to have jumped the gun on BYU being in, but seems to have more info now regarding voting than before, so he seems most reliable.
I think if possible they may try to announce by opening games next weekend. If not I could easily see it going into early October. As unorthodox as the Big 12 has been in this whole process, I think they have a plan on a time to announce to maximize their exposure. Or, perhaps if they have a bad opening weekend with their teams they will announce ahead of time to change topic of bad losses.
My guess is it will be two teams (unless in some strange turn of events they convince 1 or 2 other P5 schools to join, which I don't see likely- then it may be 4). I think BYU has a 50/50 shot to get in. I think President Gee has now changed tune and is supporting BYU. Just a guess, I think he had to look as if he didn't want BYU initially to try to look as if he was trying to get southeast and eastern schools in for the best interest of WVU, so his alumni, boosters, media won't jump on his case. But I think all along he was going to eventually favor BYU in the end. I think Cincy is also 50/50- nothing great about them, but nothing bad either- just a safe pick. I think Houston's chances are getting smaller as the non-Texas schools don't have much interest in them and they don't seem to be budging. I think the non-Texas schools like diversity and don't want the Big12 to be a good ol' Texas boys club. I would put Houston at 33% and BSU/CSU/Memphis at 25%. Academically Boise is lacking, but they are the only other school that can bring a name to the conference like BYU that will improve ratings and impress networks. Just my 2 cents, which is about as worthless as everyone's.
