The first is that if it all went down like that, that there wasn't someone at BYU either willing or empowered to push back on a bad design. And it is a bad design. It's not just the shorts, the jersey design is subpar as well. While the lettering is technically "on brand" it just doesn't have any presence and doesn't look good with the number font. It's disappointing that Nike or BYU would be cool with all these elements going out as a BYU uniform.

The second thing that's sad is the "there's always next year" comment which just underscores the fact that BYU doesn't have an iconic basketball look. Part of that is because the BYU basketball team doesn't have the same kind of legacy as an Indiana or UCLA or Duke or the BYU football team, and part of that is just the nature of basketball in general, but it would be cool if we had some kind of consistency to the look of BYU basketball other than the married white guys in the uniforms.
