No, the "facts" are that they take the second best team.

This is incorrect. In the case of the Pac 12 Champ going to the CFP, the Rose Bowl substitute goes by conference record.

So, yes it is possible that the loser of pac 12 champ game would not be in the Rose if there is another "better" team in the opposite division. I believe this happened the year when Oregon was in the CFP, UCLA lost in the Pac12 Champ game and Stanford went to the Rose Bowl.

And the name calling isn't necessary.
