The bigger conferences have some serious drawbacks in that some conference matchups rarely happen. They cycle through opponents in the other division and only play some of the other schools every 3 or 4 years.
From a mere altruistic competitive standpoint a 10 team conference without an extra championship is great. Every team plays every other conference team every year.
Of course, I understand that sports is show biz and they do what generates money.
But the CCG with 10 teams in some years will be idiotic, especially if it is a repeat of a late season matchup.
Maybe the BIG-12 will start playing more non-conference games late in the season to avoid rematches within a few weeks of each other. Then maybe that could help BYU who is looking for non-conference games late in the season.
