BYU is one of the easiest places in college basketball to be "good" (By that I mean 20-win seasons), but one of the hardest to be "elite" (by that I mean Sweet 16 or better).
There are enough good LDS players in the world that we will always be better than most of the WCC and western US teams. But the honor code and the limited number of African Americans in the LDS church makes it tough for us to compete with the elites (Kentucky, Duke, Kansas, UNC, Arizona -- even Gonzaga). That's just a fact. There is a reason we've been to more NCAA tournaments without a Final 4 than any other team in America.
