The one time he was really glad he went no doubt....
I had another similar one to that. I grew up in San Jose during the 70's. As a 13 year old scout the 50 miler we decided to do one summer was a canoe trip down the Russian river. Of course this was way before the internet or cell phones. So the leaders researched what Northern California rivers would be mostly calm and safe and came up with the Russian.

So a bunch of the dads drove us up to the point we were starting at and dropped us all off with the understanding they would pick us up 5 days layer about 50 miles down river. Since there were no cell phones there was no way to change those plans easily once they dropped us off and left fir the week. And since the internet didn't exist the research our leaders had done was limited to what they could find out from talking to other people or what was in a reference book.

Well we headed down river and it didn't take long until there were naked people everywhere. What they apparently hadn't found out in all of their research was that there were quite a few nude beaches along that river. There were naked women on the beaches, swimming in the river, floating on rubber rafts, walking around. It was a true dream come true for a bunch of 12-13 Y.O. boys. And of course the leaders had no way of getting a hold of anyone to come get us early so we had little choice but to spend the week floating and paddling down the river enjoying the scenery.

At first the leaders tried to tell us not to look but it became pretty apparent pretty quick that wasn't going to happen so they just gave up. 5 days later when we were picked up we all agreed it was the best 50 miler ever and we wanted to do it again the next summer.
