My suggestions:
If you don't leave SF, don't bother getting a car. Finding parking sometimes is the worst. Many city streets turn into parking lots during rush hour. Even if today go to the Oakland Temple visitors center just to check out the view, you can Uber from Rockridge BART pretty easily.
Restaurants:
Pizza:
Del Popolo (try to go to their truck)
Una Pizza Napoletana (best on the west coast, IMO...but pricey)
Cheeseboard in Berkeley (an institution...probably a different taste than most on Cougarboard have, but worth checking out for the experience...check their menu beforehand though)
I think Tony's is much better at marketing than making amazing pizza, but their slice house is good if you don't mind a side order of attitude. Everything in SF is $$$...Tony's is comparable to a good pizza place in New York, but a New Yorker would roll their eyes at a $5-$6 slice of pizza.
Ferry building...I eat here all the time since I work by it...
Prathers for an amazing (heavy) breakfast sandwich
Out the Door for Asian fusion to go
Delica for sushi
Cowgirl Creamery (cheese shop)
Cheap(er) eats at ferry building:
Waffles at Blue Bottle
Acme bread
The Empanada stand
