Yes, there was a lot of stupidity.
Some people thought Hancock was better than Walsh too and that he would have kept the starting job that he won after Walsh and Clements got hurt.
I doubt it. Walsh was the best of the bunch.
The best example of the stupidity of the time was blaming Walsh for the Utah State loss when BYU scored 56 points
