Very true. Ball striking makes a big difference
Watch a pro hit on the range and every shot is almost identical. Same trajectory, same basic distance.

The major difference between good golfers (single handicap) and average golfers is the ability to scramble. I've got friends who are scratch golfers and when we play they will hit all kinds of terrible tee shots during the round. They still manage to make par most of the time and when they don't it's only a bogey. My best scores of my life are never because I was driving well or hitting my irons well it was always due to me being able to get up and down for pars more often than usual.
