This was a fascinating interview about the foster parenting process, challenges, and rewards. One of the things they talk about is the challenge of an unknown fostering period. You grow attached but have to find a way to prepare yourself for letting the child go. It takes a special family to do this and it sounds like there is a shortage. One of the things they talked about is the need for support from churches and having congregation members learn how to interact with the children. Most are very good, but some well meaning adults ask insensitive questions in front of the foster child (e.g., How long will this one be with you?). It was a real mind opening interview.
