My company just went away from BYOD and is requiring company-provided cell phones. I'm trying to decide if I keep two separate devices (personal and business) or if I get rid of my personal cell and use the business one for everything. Some notes:
-I've always used Android, but company phone is iPhone. I'm sure I'll get used to the iPhone, but so far I FAR prefer Android. I was a heavy user for things like the Back Button and Recent Apps button, and find myself frustrated frequently as I try to get used to the iPhone functionality. I'm tied in pretty closely to the Google-based platform for my logins, data backup, etc.
-The cost to keep my personal phone isn't much (~$30/month)
-Personal and company phone are different providers (T-Mobile vs. Verizon)
-The company phone has pretty significant company bloatware and protection. For example, if the password is typed incorrectly 3 times, my phone is wiped. The company has the ability to wipe the phone if they believe there's been a breach. They say they can't view content on my phone, however.
-Less data available on company (3 GBs) vs personal (unlimited data)
-I'm not thrilled about the company "owning" my phone and number. If I move over to work phone only, and then take another job, I'd lose my cell phone and my number.
I'm leaning towards two separate phones, but see lots of downsides to that plan too.
