It's a measure adopted by the power conferences, last year.
Four-year scholarships (instead of the one year, renewable scholarship) that cannot be revoked for on-field performance, injury or because someone better comes along.

The NCAA, like it has since autonomy was granted, is following suit and trying to create a similar atmosphere throughout Division 1.

I'm uncertain if every non-power conference FBS school can afford that stance. I doubt any FCS schools can.

It's puts a great deal of pressure on recruiting. They have to be sure of the talent and potential because unless there off-the field issues, they are stuck with those players and their scholarships.
