I loved Luke's very special season & will always wonder/wish...
...what could have been had Luke never had chronic injuries his entire career(dating back to high school). I think an injury free Luke very well could of proved the overall greatest RB at BYU. That said, he was a one year wonder, as far as special seasons go, and even his special season he wasn't nearly the all around back that guys like Jamaal & Unga were(each dominant for multiple years and in most every aspect of being a RB).

Brady Poppinga was close to spot on with Luke on a recent radio show. Stating Luke lacked in grit(didn't break tackles nor run between the tackles well) & was sub par in pass protection(& being 6'1" 220 he should of excelled at both). I believe both of those perceived shortcomings were largely a by product of a battered and beaten down body. Also, a good part of his special season was the new Crowton offense that Doman really helped make go, great OL and a very weak schedule (even for back then in that conference and the OOC schedule lacked as well that year).

The above said, I truly believe had Luke been injury free for his HS & college career, he would of been that kind of all around back; powering through tackles and between the tackles & great at pass pro too. Combine that with his elite speed and excelleration and I'd say he'd of not only been our greatest RB, but would of made some serious noise in the NFL as well(as an everydown back).

Luke gave up his body for the sport & to BYU, so he will always be one of my all time favorite Cougars!!
