This is why if you think BYU should join the AAC or the MWC, you're wrong.

I'm not predicting 4 conferences and 64 teams. I'm not saying that independence doesn't come without its challenges, but based on the pressure that P5 teams are having to schedule top teams, I am predicting that the gap between "power" teams and everyone else will continue to widen. If BYU chose to join the AAC it would be a life sentence of mediocrity.
If Nick Saban's proposal came to fruition and more P5 teams were forced to drop G5s from their schedule, on paper, that forces more P5s onto BYU's schedule. That equals more money, more interest and essentially makes independence sustainable.
