His actions alone have put him in this situation. So he can either stay at BYU and live up to the program's decision to have him sit this year out, in the same fashion as Takitaki and Jamaal recently, then come back and finish up strong or he can transfer to Utah before the Sept.1 deadline to get into school up there, and sit the year out based on NCAA transfer rules. Either way, he's not playing football anywhere this year at this point. This week will be critical to find out which path he will choose to take.
His previous 2 years were not a huge sacrifice as long as he finishes strong and fulfills the potential that BYU coaches and fans believe he has. If he chooses to transfer, it's a much bigger gamble. He has to go to a new program and compete in a new system. There is no guarantee similar to what he already has here that he will come back to be a starter and will have every opportunity to shine and pursue his dream. This could just as easily turn into a tragedy (for him) where it doesn't work out and the transfer + 1 year not playing comes back to hurt him big time.
