reason they are formally separating from G5. moving into any other conference that is not P5 is like signing your own execution order as a football program. while i don't believe indy is sustainable long term either...it will slow the dying process town (think of it as filing multiple appeals before you get the chair).

at some point if we don't ever get invited to P5 and aren't give P5 concessions as indy...we will join the sorry souls in G5 which will soon become what FCS is now. i give it about 10-15 yrs max.
