9-3 or 8-4 records are fine, if we have at least a couple of P5 pelts along the way, beat Boise St. more often than not, and take care of business against Utah St. and the rest of the schedule.
But, if we struggle to even compete against the P5 opponents on the schedule, I question the wisdom in this scheduling philosophy. One main reason for BYU's great attendance and history is being ranked throughout the course of the season. It's easy to look past lackluster opponents on the schedule down the stretch (see New Mexico, UNLV, Wyoming in our WAC/MWC days) when we are ranked in the top-20; not so easy to look past those opponents (see SJSU, Fresno, UNLV, UMass) when we have an 0-fer against the good opponents on the schedule.
To beat Boise St. and Mississippi St. would save this season!
