Flawed, and make errors in judgement, how can we be certain that it was the apostles who were wrong, and not us?

Is there even a tiny chance that for some reason we don't understand, it was God's will that the church be involved in Prop 8, and the apostles were acting under His direction?

I don't know the answer to that question, and maybe they were dead wrong. It's just that if I extend the same fallibility to myself as I do to the apostles, by definition, I could be the one who is wrong. There's a chance.
