It's about being more balanced and having more talent from top to bottom. That's a difference maker for BYU. They always had the starters to have winning seasons. They've never had the depth to do more. You increase the top end talent a bit, and also up the talent level in the bottom 3/4 of every class, and things look much better.
BYU hasn't reached their ceiling in that regard. And the way BYU will have to accomplish this isn't going to always be seen on paper, like some on here are so infatuated with. They'll have to do it like the Boise's and USU's of the world, and frankly, Utah. Have an eye for athleticism and potential, and then develop it. You'll see more raw athletic ability, and Kalani needs a staff who can develop them. It's what they did at Utah. It's a majority of USU's NFL draft picks. That's how programs like ours get it done.
But they need the type of staff that can recruit them and develop them, and help it all come together come game time with game planning, personnel decisions, adjustments, etc. Right now I don't think this staff is capable of that as they are. Hopefully it gets shaken up in a good way.
