There are definitely some slow-going stretches in there.
I remember having a hard time getting past page 100 or so, and then it was hard to put down for a couple hundred pages, and then slow again, etc. But the good parts were that interesting and profound that i still wanted to keep reading, even if very slowly. But yeah, maybe give the abridged version a try.
