BYU Football history for what it actually was.
Yes, this year is terrible. But the decade before 2017 - the independence one - was essentially tied for our best decade since the late 70s and early 80s. The real stats:
2007-2016: 91 W, 39 L (played on the biggest stages against the best lineup of name-brand teams ever)
1997-2006 (The "good ol' days" when we were members of the WAC/MWC with a "real shot" at an NC): 72 W, 51 L
1987-1996: 91 W, 36 L, 2 T
The revisionist history on this board amazes me, sometimes. The reality is that we haven't been as good as we were in the 80s since the 80s, and independence hasn't crushed a once-mighty program. Guys, we weren't mighty before independence, and we aren't mighty during. We currently have a bad team with a coaching problem suffering through one bad year. This can be fixed, but "fixed" doesn't mean "restored to glory," but rather "restored to being the same solid, P5 outsider program it always has been."
