I hate the expectation of presents on Christmas.
I just want to be with my family and remember Christ’s birth. I don’t want to have to worry about trying to get all the right gifts for everyone.

Also, the total consumerism of Christmas has really dampened my Christmas spirit. Call me a Scrooge if you want, but I just don’t love the expectations around gifts or the required feigned excitement when receiving a lame gift you don’t want or need.

The process of picking out just the right thing is 98% of the happiness I feel when getting something new. I feel like someone steals my joy when they buy me a gift, because I didn’t get to experience the thrill of the hunt for the perfect item. I am also super frustrated and sad that people waste money on buying me gifts. Please, just save your money. I really only want your friendship and love. I don’t want you to waste your money buying me something. A gift will never affect my thoughts of you one way or the other. But a gift will make me feel like an idiot when I have to act happy and excited that you bought me something I will most likely never use.

So, yes. I also prefer Thanksgiving to Christmas. On Thanksgiving we just eat good food and hang out with family. Much better than what Christmas has become in our consumeristic society.
