I speculate it was either to get more leverage/$ to negotiate with byu or because he already knew he wasn't going to be a candidate for the OC job anyway. I hope it's the later. Or I suppose he might see opportunities elsewhere as more appealing. Who'd want to work at their alma mater? Certainly not someone who learned from KWhit.
I'm not sure why a few years ago that he accepted the byu WR position only to return to Yewtah the next day? I'm guessing money was also part of that decision.
