I have fired several people - and NEVER had a replacement lined up first.
Every single time, our organization came out ahead as a result.

Yeah - there is a HUGE difference between someone who is looking for a new job and doesn't quit their old job first, and someone who is replacing an employee who isn't being successful.

And, honestly, I'm one who probably would've given Ty another year to see if he could show improvement. But not having his replacement lined up is NOT the reason to not let him go.
