The gluten free pie story reminds me of Thanksgiving at my sister's a few years
ago. My sister was hosting and invited some friends. At the time, she was nursing and wasn't eating dairy. She put her friend in charge of the mashed potatoes and specifically told her to make them good and not worry about her dietary restrictions (There were about 20 people there and only my sister was dairy free.)

Her friend, thinking that she was being super thoughtful, made potatoes with no butter, milk, or dairy of any kind. She basically boiled potatoes and mashed them. They were awful. Nobody touched them and it kinda ruined the meal to have no potatoes. My sister was so mad that she did that and we have brought it up every year since.
