I think the argument for SGA is that the Thunder have been better. I think the stats are comparable and both obviously have a huge impact on winning, but:
Thunder have a 120.7 offensive rtg which is 2nd
Nuggets have a 118.5 offensive rtg which is 6th
Thunder have a 112.6 defensive rtg which is 5th
Nuggets have a 113.8 defensive rtg which is 10th
Thunder have a +7.7 net rtg which is 2nd
Nuggets have a +4.7 net rtg which is 5th
Now most of that difference can be explained by the nuggets being bad when Jokic is on the bench.
With Jokic on the bench the nuggets have a 107.8 offensive rating and a 117.1 defensive rating. That’s a -9.3 net rating. Worse than the Pistons.
Thunder have a -.7 net rating with SGA on the bench…
That would seem to favor Jokic, but I’m more concerned with what happens when they are actually on the court.
Nuggets have a 123.9 offensive rating with Jokic on
Thunder have a 123.5 offensive rating with SGA on
Nuggets have a 112.9 defensive rtg with Jokic on
Thunder have a 111.7 defensive rtg with SGA on
So the net ratings are +11.8 for SGA and +11.0 for Jokic.
Honestly pretty comparable. If you want to give Jokic the slight box score stats lead, I’d give SGA the slight plus/minus impact lead. And it’s not like SGA has the better supporting cast. The nuggets guys are much more established and proven than the Thunder guys.
But it’s close to me. That’s why I’d say whoever wins the 1 seed would get my vote.
