The funny thing is, I'm not sure I've ever been more excited for the future of BYU basketball. For the first time in a long time, I feel like BYU has a system they can recruit to. One that is ahead of its time in college basketball and is fully entrenched in analytics.

What Pope did this year was remarkable. BYU should have been every bit of the 13 seed that they were predicted to finish in the Big 12. And in ONE YEAR Pope turned it around.

The reality is the roster was flawed. They had one guy on the whole roster that could score in isolation. They didn't have one guy on the roster that could get downhill off the dribble and finish. Have you paid any attention to these tournament games? Most of these rosters are full of them. And we still managed to make the tournament without one of them.

I expect that to be fixed next year. If Baker is healthy, we're already better. If Chandler can get into playing shape quickly, even better. I also expect Pope to find someone else in the portal.

It sucks to lose in the first round and tarnish an awesome season. But some of these takes are just nuts. Do better.
