In my opinion though his spins lack speed and stretch, as does his footwork and general ice coverage, but that's not that uncommon with many top skaters, and most casual spectators don't notice or even care. It's unfortunate, as a really well executed spin that is fully centered, quickly-rotated, with superb posture and stretch can be just as exhilarating to watch as a quad axel. Also footwork is often slower these days because it has to be so intricate to get the higher difficulty level. Still, I'd say it's better than before. I remember back in the day (80s and 90s) watching programs with lots of jumps and hardly any spins or footwork. I also remember the push to be the first to land a quad jump in competition. I always thought it'd be Brian Boitano. He was landing them in practice, but never could seem to do it in competition. He abandoned it for the Olympic season in 1988, so it was Kurt Browning of Canada that first succeeded in the 1988 World Championships. He barely squeaked it out, and it was probably another 12 or so years before male skaters started to land them regularly in competition.
