I don’t have an IMAX theater right near my house, but I decided to make the drive and go see it in an IMAX with my kids. I can’t recommend this enough. The experience is just so much better with IMAX. The whole place was shaking, and the huge screen was awesome.
If you had asked me how much I liked the movie at about an hour and 45 minutes, I would have said it was pretty good. It was almost too much epicness if that makes sense. Some slow scenes followed by epic music and moments. But it just wasn’t quite hitting the right tone for me.
But then, the last hour was just excellent. If I am ranking this on a rewatchable scale, if it’s on TV and it’s in the last hour, I am tuning in and watching the rest. There’s just something about when a main character suddenly learns that he is the one and starts walking around with this swagger and this face and just annihilating everyone that I love. See The Matrix. Not to mention the worms.
Christopher Walken was a total mess. Distracting and not the right fit for the part.
I understood that Paul‘s girlfriend was against the whole religion thing, but at some point in time, don’t you start to believe. Don’t you chill out a little bit when he comes back to life after fulfilling the prophecy with your tears. I couldn’t quite understand why she was so angry all the time. They ultimately had similar goals.
Overall, it was fun watching an epic movie at an awesome movie theater. Felt like old times.
