There's a whole team of people surrounding Ohtani.

When Ippei (the interpreter) got busted, other people on the team (PR, etc) talked to Ippei to find out what happened. Ippei told them he told Ohtani he needed money to pay off debts, so Ohtani sent him the money. So, the team sent out a statement saying as much.

Later, it was discovered Ippei was lying, so they revised their statement to Ohtani didn't know anything and never sent money to Ippei to pay off debts.

Everything was happening quickly, so it's easy to see how Ippei's lies got released in those initial statements.
