Big time coaches in basketball and football at major universities, often have constructive direct reporting relationships to the President, regardless of what the org chart says.
It's not about Santiago, who may be just fine. I wouldn't know.
What I would say is a highly capable major basketball or football coach in no way should be reporting to an Assistant AD. No matter who it is, that is not likely to work. It's not requisite, i.e. required by the nature of things.
