All kidding aside, I think that pretty well nails it on the head. The attitudes/mentality in America are more individualistic, whereas Europe tends to have a more communal mindset.
So in America, people want their lawn or green space. In Europe, you have a shared green space and it works for them. But try the same thing here and it comes off as giving up the American dream.
