I pulled a hamstring badly in 2017 on a short training run ten days before a
marathon. Every time I tried to run I’d reinjure.

Last year I was able to finish a marathon again. The trick for me was to being lifting weights (I didn’t lift with intensity or even much weight). Some exercises work the hamstring area and some work other parts of the legs. I came up with a routine with light hand weights that worked my arms and my legs.

Then I slowly added the running back in. I didn’t increase the weight much, but kept it going through the marathon in October.

After the marathon I quit lifting and pulled a hammy again in December. Now I’m getting back into it with the weight lifting again.
