Church invests nothing and gains the benefits of exposure. BYU sports is one of the most visible parts of the church and the church doesn't really invest in it at this point. They expect BYU Athletics to fund their own facilities and stay cash flow positive, using athletic facilities like marriott center and LES for church and BYU related activities too.
