As much respect I have for Coach Rose, the reality is that when he left there was a dearth of talent in the program with the exception of TJ Haws, who had one year left to play. BYU Basketball was not in a good spot. In year 1 he convinced Yoeli Childs to come back for another year, brought over Jake Toolson and brought on Alex Barcello. Year 2 he beat out Kentucky in a recruiting battle for Matt Haarms. Years 3 and 4 weren't great for sure, but he built the core that would make up the team that exceeded all expectations in year 1 of the Big12. It was clear to see that he had BYU basketball on a good trajectory.
It was only a crazy set of circumstances that his dream job was available at Kentucky. To me it's completely understandable that he would pursue players that he helped recruit and develop. We all cheered when Jay Hill brought Eddie Heckard with him.
Was he over the top at times? Sure. Did he rub people the wrong way at times? Sure. No coach is perfect, but he worked hard during his time here and did a lot with the resources he had.
Calling him Mark Poop or intimating that he is a mediocre coach is juvenile and shows a lack of basketball knowledge. The fan bases with the best reputation are those that are classy, secure in their position, and educated about their sport. The past few days BYU has shown that they are serious about being a big-time program, we can do the same and put this pettiness behind us.
