So my personal experience with that is that if you have an agent that wants
to do you the customer service to take care of you as a customer, they will do that, but as I noted, mine told me that if they got involved, it would then be on my record and a crash is a crash and they don't discern between who is at fault.

I'm no longer with that agency, but just because that is what one insurance company told me, then I haven't or probably wouldn't go through my agent unless they told me they would do it and it wouldn't reflect on my rate. I just never have tried with my current agent.

Bottom line is that you can get it done through the at-fault person's insurance. It wasn't anything more than letting them know, they gave me a claim number and everything sailed along nicely.
