Maybe I am going to be flamed for this, but it's the way I feel.
BYU sports is wonderful. It is a great missionary opportunity and PR arm for the mission of the church behind the university.

But, I am not willing to donate money to keep players at our school because they want to get paid. There is only so much money that fans have to spread to causes that they deem worthy of spending money on. Family, mortgage/rent, food, tithing, entertainment, etc.
For me personally, if the scuttle is true that Dallin wants $600k spread over two years like Khalifa received from Louisville, keeping Dallin is just not a priority for me.

I am fully aware that in order to make money, you need to spend money. I am grateful for those who feel this is a priority. Perhaps in this case, I am a free rider. I don't like to be a free rider, but NIL has soured my enjoyment of college sports.

I do not blame the players for getting the most that they can in this new environment. Good for them. They should be paid what they are worth. But in the hierarchy of monetary priorities, paying college athletes does not move the budget needle for me.
