Donors never pay those things directly. It always goes through the school. Just like funding for buildings, named spaces
Or buildings, specific contributions for a program, scholarships, etc…all donated to the school and earmarked specifically for one thing or another. As an example, there is a group that specifically funds the women’s golf team at BYU. It is donated to the the athletic department, but they have specifically earmarked those funds for the golf team. The same thing happens with coaches.
