I agree with him that using the greeting “how’s it going” should in general be avoided. Unless you are ready to have serious conversations with people it makes for mostly superficial answers and encourages hiding our true feelings. I like the “ it’s good to see you” approach much better if you really mean it.

If not, good day to you, will have to do.
