Saw "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare" this weekend. Earned a solid "Meh".
I was really excited for this movie, because I typically enjoy Guy Ritchie's work, and it boasted a pretty solid cast and the usually reliable "based on a true story" about WWII formula. But overall, I just found the movie kind of dull. They don't really spend any time at all developing the major characters and the action sequences feel like scenes from a video game set on Easy Mode. The "good guys" walk through enemy compounds mowing down opposing soldiers by the hundreds and rarely have to duck or dodge a bullet. Alan Ritchinson kills about 800 guys with a bow and arrow and a knife. If you ever played "Operation Wolf" as kid, that's sort of what this felt like. And the usual Guy Ritchie snappy dialogue is almost entirely missing (I sort of blame Cavill for this, with the exception of a pretty good turn in the Mission Impossible series, I've never much cared for his acting).

Overall I would rate it a C or C-. Outside of Cavill, the other actors do a pretty good job with what they have to work with, and the visuals and locations are fun to look at. Save this one for when it streams on Amazon.
