There are basically two city blocks east of the Delta Center before you hit City Creek. To turn that into an entertainment district, it seems like they'd have to tear down the entire north side of the Salt Palace. At that point is the Salt Palace even big enough to continue functioning as a convention center? Or would SEG simply turn it into the new practice facility & headquarters for the NHL franchise?
One thing that should be in the plans is the continuation of the retractable glass ceiling from City Creek down through the entertainment district. Besides the homeless, one of the big issues with the Gateway has been that nobody wants to visit an outdoor space during the winter months. And considering most of the events at the Delta Center will take place between October-April, if you want people to hang out in the entertainment district pre- & post-game then you'd better have a plan in place to keep people warm.
